Here's the latest news:
Police have charged a two term lawmaker from Winterport with OUI after he allegedly hit a parked car outside a popular restaurant and bar. Bangor police say Republican Representative Jeff Kaelin's blood alcohol level was .13, nearly two thirds more than the legal limit.
A Bangor bike patrol officer saw Kaeilin hit a car parked next to his pickup as he tried to leave the Sea Dog Friday night. Kaelin then failed six sobriety tests.
The arresting officer says Kaelin repeatedly stated that he was a legislator. When the officer expressed disappointment, Kaelin replied, "this is nothing."
Despite the incident, many people from Winterport say they still support Representative Kaelin.
"Kaelin is a wonderful person and he cares about people in Winterport. You have to appreciate that," said Sara Trask of Winterport.
Kaelin told police he has a clean driving record. The state says Kaelin was ticketed 7 times for speeding between 13 and 21 miles over the limit. He also has tickets for running a stop sign and following too closely.
Kaelin would not comment to NEWS CENTER. His lawyer has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon.
