City Manager Arrested on Cart DUI
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (AP) -- The city's top administrator was arrested for driving a golf cart while under the influence of alcohol.
Police arrested 57-year-old city manager Bernard J. McMullen.
A Peachtree City police report said McMullen was arrested after a Friday evening concert while carrying a glass of wine.
McMullen blew a 0.104 on a portable alcohol sensor at the scene but refused to take a test on a breath-alcohol machine at the Police Department.
Under Georgia law, drivers are legally intoxicated at 0.08.
He also was charged with having an open container of alcohol and possessing alcohol in a park.
McMullen was released from the Fayette County Jail on Saturday on $3,338 bond.
Mayor Harold Logsdon called the arrest an "unfortunate incident."
Logsdon says McMullen will continue in his job but the mayor will supervise the police department until the case has been adjudicated.
McMullen has been city manager for three years.
Traffic violations involving golf cart drivers are not new in Peachtree City, a town of 36,000 people with about 9,000 golf carts registered. Public events such as concerts attract hundreds of golf cart drivers.
